Thousand Reflections Mirror

Tenshi no tamago - The angel egg - El huevo del ángel

"A mysterious visitor interrupts the monotonous life of a girl who looks after a mysterious egg"

With this premise that reveals nothing of the surreal conflict that is presented to us in an artistic way as sublime as wordless. A story with a strong reference to Christianity immerses us in a desolate city. Beyond what can be said with words, visualization is mandatory to understand the greatness that lies in the work.
In a slow rhythm, a captivating animation that makes you feel in a heartbreaking dream and use in its maximum splendor of the visual narrative, obligatory work for lovers of animations that require the viewer to immerse themselves in the story and draw their own conclusions
Like other great animated works, it stands out for never giving me a detailed explanation, the work invites you to draw your conclusions about God, society, faith, etc.
It has never been said what the movie is about, it is a gift for the viewer, one that should be appreciated as something that it requires to make sense.

The interpretations are endless, ranging from the fact that the film is a nihilistic message about hopelessness, passing through the representations of Jesus in one of the characters to culminating among those who say that it is a work that talks about the importance and revival of faith.
Personally I think that is the latter, when I saw it for the second time I could appreciate new things, a subtle battle of faith against reason, the vagueness of society and how acts of hope engender more hope. That means to me, at least now, when I see it again, it may change its meaning just as I change. Tell us, what is it for you?

Utopia ergo ciberpunk

To talk about Ergo Proxy is to talk about a complicated anime, a series that addresses complex issues in an unconventional way. Addressing a variety of topics ranging from "I", through topics such as loneliness and the raison d'être to Godhood and God, all seasoned with ingenious references to classical Greek culture and encryption in Sanskrit and finally served in an unconventional narrative method.
Starting at the beginning the synopsis does not tell us much:
In a post-apocalyptic future humans live in peace with androids in a domed city. However, a strange series of murders has intruded into bored inspector Re-l Mayer's life.
From the first chapter they throw us into the world, a futuristic utopia that survives the environmentally destroyed world from the outside. From this episode we realize that utopia is not what it seems, hidden experiments, monstrous figures and a word that is at the center of everything "Proxy". This starts the investigation that will move the story, What is a Proxy? Looking for answers our three protagonists will embark on a journey through the ruins of the world and straight to the abyss that humanity represents.

Characters:
Re-L: Member of the intelligence department and full-time Gothic bad-ass (until the makeup runs out), dedicated to the investigation of the cogito virus will immerse himself in the investigation of the proxy after meeting Vincent.
Vincent: Immigrant who tries to gain his citizenship by hunting the robots infected with the cogito and weak part-time virus.
Pine: Pine is Pine
Raúl: Chief of security of Romdo, follows the dictates of a mysterious council to run the city. Nietzsche's superman
Daedalus: Scientist and liar in equal parts.

Topic:
What personally fascinated me about the series is the amount of concepts that it introduces, “the Cogito virus” that gives awareness to the robots, the first thing they can do when they take it is to kneel and throw their prayers to heaven asking for help. The concept of the Proxy that goes hand in hand with the dome cities is also fascinating and makes us wonder about the very concept of utopia, a city that works like a clock based on a strict caste system, robot manpower, a surveillance that It competes with Big Brother and an old-fashioned Roman citizenship, one that can be obtained or removed depending on the merits one makes. It also takes the issue of divinity and loneliness that comes with being a god, as well as the helplessness and worthlessness of this in a style that reminds Doctor Manhattan of Watchmen.

Production
As for the animation-production there is nothing to object, the atmosphere that manages to create the peculiar animation style is very good, one can feel that atmosphere of false utopia in the colors, approaches and shots that show us. On the other hand, it has something that makes a combination of 2D and 3D elements more than respectable. And I heard some negative comments regarding those combinations, but personally enjoy the immersive style of the series, the action scenes are fine, the landscapes and movements are the same and even when in a certain chapter you have to change the atmosphere or tone they do it in a right way.
One point that I consider crucial when assessing a work is the narrative style that they give us, where other series give us a tremendous torrent of information so that we can locate what is happening, in which I consider some of the best series what happens On the contrary, the narrative is visual, nobody will explain to us what is happening, one must stop and think about what I just saw, fill in the gaps and draw their own conclusions. Ergo proxy follows that style in a large number of chapters, although it is not exempt from taking a few moments for an old-fashioned dialogue exposition or even in a more innovative and far-fetched way (see Chapter 15 for example). Now, something that can be noted is that for some observers the series could be too long, shorten some parts or directly skip them and lengthen others, it will depend on each person if they get carried away by the intrigue and enjoy the experience and immersion or He rejects them. Personally some things surprised me that they did not pass them or took them for granted, but one can understand what are the aspects that the series wants to highlight.

Music:
In the soundtrack we must emphasize that the opening is quite hypnotizing and extremely good. On the theme of the ending, it has two different ones that are also incredibly enjoyable in terms of sound, but they don't have that combination of image and sound that makes the opening spectacular. (As one of the end data is Paranoic Android from Radiohead)
On the soundtracks on the other hand, they make great game with the anime scenes, a combination of electronic music and Gregorian choirs (I love them both and have a sublime version of the classic Kyrei Eleison). Outside of that, much of its tracks can only be heard along with the anime, few of its tracks could be taken to listen to.

Will I enjoy anime?
You will do it if what you are looking for is an anime that presents you with concepts, characters and situations that make you think outside the box, presents novel and interesting concepts that are backed by animation and intrigue that immerses us. Something that has been questioned is the characters and their developments, but, although these are not the most outstanding characters and have their failures, they are good vehicles that advance the story in an organic way and how everything has its great moments (Except for Pine , she is perfect from beginning to end). If you are looking for great battles this is not your style, the ones that are there are good, but it is not the axis of the plot. Personally I have it in my selection of masterpieces. Give it a try if you think it's your kind of anime. You might like it or you might not do it, but from what you can learn something or find something that catches your attention there will be. There is no waste.
