The great human connection - La gran conexión humana

     Miss Lain, aren't you thinking of betraying Masami Eiri?

We cannot talk about great animated works without at least making reference to Evangelion, which we will talk about long and hard on another occasion, because here we will talk more than about the series, we will comment on two plans that despite being completely different in their execution and appearance in their very essence they are brothers, children of the same time. Before we will do a few brief summaries of the plans.

The Human Instrumentation Project:

In Evangelion the well-known organization Seele tries to carry out a plan where using clones of arcane deities they try to restart human existence by returning our human souls to the sea of LCL, a place without the individual ego that keeps us separate being all the same being , all being one but none at the same time.

Protocol 7

In SEL, the scientist Masami Eiri, together with some minions, seeks to become an absolute God through the Internet, where he will use the Shuman resonance implemented in the new Internet protocol to connect all people, creating an embodiment of the collective unconscious to undo the barrier between reality and Wired.

The parallelism of both plans is obvious when we free them from the confusion in which they are involved in their respective series. Both seek to break down the barriers that separate us from each other. Something curious is that the projects were relatively parallel to each other, the screenwriter of SEL, only saw Evangelion when he already had the fourth chapter done, so it is not one of the things that influenced the series. Which is even more interesting, the time in Japan was propitious for this type of projects to come to light, with a ruthless economic crisis reigning, many series visualized an end of the world. Beyond the end of the world it is interesting to note the similarities of the protagonists, two depressed teenagers with serious problems of social interaction and with a destiny already written ahead. Without wanting to, they are drawn to fulfill ruthless agendas that ultimately are a reflection of their deepest desires. Modern society (including in the 90s) has been seen in a growing solitude where it is increasingly difficult to relate and interact. Ironically, the society of the present (2020) tends to glorify loneliness, call it strong, freedom, etc. The ultimate goal of both series was to show young people how the answers we will never find in oneself and their loneliness, the true loneliness is cold and painful as Lain shows numerous times in front of the computer or Shinji locked in his headphones.

Both subjected to the same abysmal terror, fear of others, knowing that we can never fully understand and be understood, be hurt and feel pain for others. Where they see suffering, most people today see freedom. At the culmination of both series, when the plans are running respectively the miracle, the deviation and the chaos occur, the final decision is left to the consideration of our depressing protagonists, the answer they have been looking for all this time appears in front of them, the possibility to stop suffering, not to feel lonely again and always be connected.

Connect to the Wired Shinji or Rei will have to do it again.

It is at this moment that the protagonists become aware of what can escape us, of the importance of the other, of how we cannot be if they are not and that suffering is not so bad because thanks to him there is that force that allows us to be happy. They both reject the whole unit, only it is different for both of them. Where one rejects him at the cost of immeasurable destruction, but giving hope for humanity to rise, the other, on the contrary, decides to carry all the consequences, in his role as divinity he accepts to carry the weight of his presence and disappears.

One could go on, for the other the pain was too much and he makes the last decision.

Of my favorite series, both show us the importance of connection but also its dangers, who hasn't been intimidated when entering a crowded room and having the chilling thought that he is alone? That none of that crowd understands it nor can it fully understand it. Only to the extent that we love people can we dispel a bit of the unfathomable fog called humanity that surrounds us because, what is love but our effort to merge with others, to live in them and they in us?

Lo mismo pero en español

                Señorita Lain, ¿no estara pensando en traicionar a Masami Eiri?

No podemos hablar de grandes obras animadas sin al menos hacer referencia a Evangelion, del cual hablaremos a largo y tendido en otra ocasión, pues aquí hablaremos mas que de la serie, comentaremos dos planes que a pesar de ser completamente diferentes en su ejecución y apariencia en su misma esencia son hermanos, hijos de la misma época. Antes haremos unos resúmenes breves de los planes.

El Proyecto de instrumentación humana: 

En Evangelion la organización conocida Seele trata de llevar a cabo un plan donde usando a clones de deidades arcanas tratan de reiniciar la existencia humana devolviendo nuestras almas humanas al mar de LCL, un lugar sin el ego individual que nos mantiene separados siendo todos el mismo ser, siendo todos uno pero a la vez ninguno.

El Protocolo 7

En SEL, el científico Masami Eiri junto con algunos secuaces busca convertirse en un Dios absoluto a través del Internet, donde utilizara la resonancia Shuman implementada en el nuevo protocolo del Internet para conectar a todas las personas creando a una encarnación del inconsciente colectivo para deshacer las barrera entre la realidad y el Wired. 

El paralelismo de ambos planes es obvio cuando los libramos de la confusión en la que están envueltas en sus respectivas series. Ambos buscan derribar las barreras que nos separan los unos a los otros. Algo curioso es que los proyectos fueron relativamente paralelos entre si, el guionista de SEL, solo vio Evangelion cuando ya tenia el cuarto capitulo hecho, por lo que no es una de las cosas que influencio a la serie. Lo cual es aun mas interesante, la época en Japón era propicia para que este tipo de proyectos salieran a la luz, con una crisis económica despiadada reinando, muchas series visualizaron un fin del mundo. Mas allá del fin del mundo es interesante notar lo similares de los protagonistas, dos adolescentes depresivos con serios problemas de interacción social y con un destino ya escrito por delante. Sin quererlo se ven arrastrados a cumplir agendas despiadadas que en ultima instancia son un reflejo de sus mas profundos deseos. La sociedad moderna (incluyendo en los años 90) se a visto en una creciente soledad donde cada vez es mas difícil relacionarse e interactuar. De manera irónica, la sociedad del presente (2020) tiende a glorificar la soledad, llamarla de fuertes, libertad, etc. El objetivo final de ambas series era mostrarle a los jóvenes como las respuestas nunca las encontraremos en uno mismo y su soledad, la verdadera soledad es fría y dolorosa como lo muestra Lain numerosas veces frente al ordenador o Shinji encerrado en sus audífonos.

A ambos sometidos al mismo terror abismal, el miedo a los otros, el saber que jamas podremos comprender y ser comprendidos totalmente, ser lastimados y sentir dolor por los otros. Donde ellos ven sufrimiento, la mayoría de las personas hoy ven libertad. En el culmen de ambas series, cuando los planes van corriendo respectivamente ocurre el milagro, la desviación y el caos, la decisión final queda a consideración de nuestros deprimentes protagonistas, la respuesta que han estado buscando todo este tiempo aparece frente a ellos, la posibilidad de dejar de sufrir, de no volverse a sentir solos y estar siempre conectados. 

     

Es en este momento donde los protagonistas toman conciencia de lo que se nos puede escapar, de la importancia del otro, de como no podemos ser si no son y que el sufrimiento no es tan malo porque gracias a el existe esa fuerza que nos permite ser felices. Ambos rechazan la unidad completa, solo que es diferente para ambos. Donde uno lo rechaza a costa de una inconmensurable destrucción, pero dando esperanza para que la humanidad se levante, el otro por el contrario, decide cargar con todas las consecuencias, en su papel de divinidad acepta cargar con el peso de su presencia y desaparece. 

Uno pudo seguir adelante, para la otra el dolor fue demasiado y toma la ultima de las decisiones. 

De mis series preferidas, ambas nos muestran la importancia de la conexión pero también sus peligros, ¿quien no se ha sentido intimidado al entrar en un salón lleno de gente y tener el escalofriante pensamiento que esta solo? Que ninguno de esa multitud lo comprende ni podrá hacerlo totalmente. Solo en la medida que amemos a las personas podremos disipar un poco la insondable niebla llamada humanidad que nos rodea porque, ¿que es el amor sino nuestro esfuerzo de fundirnos con los otros, pervivir en ellos y ellos en nosotros?
